NSDAR New Iberia Chapter
New Iberia Chapter, New Iberia, Louisiana
Last updated: September 23, 2015
The New Iberia Chapter NSDAR was organized on December 1, 1925, at the Elks Parlor in New Iberia, Louisiana. Our chapter was named for the City of New Iberia founded by Lt. Col. Francisco Bouligny in 1779. Bouligny and his soldiers were members of the Galvez Expedition during the American Revolution.
Currently, we have over 100 members and sponsor several scholarships and awards and participate in LSDAR and NSDAR committees. We also participate in various service to veterans projects; we place a high priority on support and recognition of veterans and of those currently serving our country in the United States Armed Forces. Another very high priority is education, and we encourage American history scholarship through several awards.
Our yearly scholarship and awards are:
Alice Gates Scholarship - given to the recipient of the DAR Good Citizens award each year. High school seniors may qualify for this $500 scholarship.
American History Essay - 5th through 8th graders compete in this yearly essay contest on an assigned American history topic.
Christopher Columbus Essay - 9th through 12th graders compete in this yearly essay contest on a topic specific to Christopher Columbus.
Educators and students are encouraged to contact us for more information about the awards and scholarship!

Our chapter is partnering with area scout troops and other organizations who conduct flag disposal ceremonies.
